Ready to embark on a journey of personal power and unstoppable confidence?
How to train Martial arts! Team Vunak UK in Hull isn’t just about martial arts, it’s about transforming you from the inside out. We teach you how to train Martial Arts not just throw information at you. We focus on two main areas and they are:
Self-Perfection: Forge an unstoppable mindset and unleash your physical potential through dynamic training.
Self-Preservation: Develop the skills and confidence to conquer any challenge, inside the gym and out on the streets.
This is the time you take to improve a technique maybe isolating it. An example of this could be shadow boxing just a jab to ensure you throw it correctly, Practicing angles with a stick in your hand to develop body mechanics.
If you come from a traditional martial art, think about a Kata in Karate or a form in Tae Kwon Do. There is not much street fighting however, but there is a lot of technique and skill development.
Real fighting, hard training, Headbutts Knees Elbow, Biting you name it. Self-preservation is about surviving and getting home to your family. The system/method we use for this is the Rapid Assault Tactics.
The RAT is about winning as quickly as possible and not getting unstuck because your techniques do not work. After all, you need to train them against a resisting opponent.
Created by my Instructor Paul Vunak and used by the Navy Seals, FBI, CIA, DEA and many more, it is used in life-or-death situations.
If I were to give you a percentage, I would say we go 60/40 in favour of self-perfectionism. We need to learn new skills and develop the timing and attributes to use them to make our JKD work.
However, if we do not test them, we will never be confident enough to use them.
We cant train Self Preservation all the time as we will get injured and soon lose training partners however, we can’t only do self-perfection as it will only remain theory and you never pressure test it, That’s how to train martial arts.
The 5 ways to internalize a new technique or skill fit across the self-perfection/preservation paradigm.
The 5 steps are as follows
Whatever the new skill is you need to learn its mechanics. What position do you need to be in? How does the body mechanics work? How should you extend your arm and what knuckles are you landing with?
Now, let’s get practising this on the focus pads, heavy bag or shadow boxing. Add some footwork to it. Make sure everything is landing correctly and you are not developing any bad habits.
How well can you do it? Are you hitting hard and fast, are you covered when throwing the punch is your movement fast and smooth? If so you can say with some certainty you have mastered the technique.
There is only way to do this stage and thats sparring – against a resisting opponent. This does not have to be blood and thunder is can be 30% force however they do not let you land the jab, they make you work for it.
This means getting off your couch and training.Turn up hit the pads, hit the bags have a spar and just keep training. Not all training sessions are about learning something new in fact most are not.
